Update on Nicola

Dear friends,
We seem to be experiencing the one step forward and three steps back syndrome at the moment. Nicola has had an xray and the obstruction does not seem to be clearing so she is back on a drip and back on nil by mouth. At the same time she has had severe diarrhea for some time which means she gets very little sleep at night and is completely washed out in the day. She had a very bad night last night with no sleep at all until about 4.30am. The doctors say that the diarrhea may be due to the radiotherapy and they are reluctant to treat it as it may make the obstruction worse. As the radiotherapy is now over we are hoping and praying that the diarrhea will ease.

I have to say that this lovely lady that I married over 30 years ago is quite extraordinary. When she phoned this morning and told me about her night she was cheerful, positive with not a fleeting hint of self pity anywhere to be heard. This of course is how she has been since the day of diagnosis until today, but it still amazes me!

Thanks so much for your continued prayer and love, we appreciate it so much.

Love,

Phil

Dear Phil & Nicola, Hannah, Sam, Abigail & Rebekah,
We think about you everyday and pray for you everytime we think of you.
Phil, Nicola is indeed extrodinary and very inspirational. I was laughing the other day when I was making the dinner and all 4 children were needing my attention, all at once. I was laughing because I remembered that as a new mum I used to come round to your house for a cup of tea...not infrequently, right at the time of your evening meal preparations and Nicola was, as ever , full of grace and didn't once tell me to sling my hook!!
This also led me to think just how inspirational your parenting skills were to Hamish and I in the early days of our parenting journey.
You were then, and continue to be such great role models for us and I'm sure many, many others.
Thanks for all the cups of tea and I promise to try and not pop in when you're in the middle of cooking bangers and mash again!!!
Big Love to you all

Dear Phil and Nicky,
We are praying that the end of the radiothrapy will mean that Nicky will feel much better. We are sorry to read of the problems this has brought about. As you say Phil she is a wonderful lady and you both are an inspiration to us. Be assured of our continuing prayers.

Graeme and Gwyneth
