Nicola's latest news

Nicola has now left the high dependency unit and returned to an ordinary surgical ward. Yesterday Abigail, Hannah and Sam went to Thorpe Park for a very well deserved treat. Nicola and I had a lovely, relaxed day together. We read the papers and had hot chocolate in the hospital cafe, it almost felt like a normal Saturday, we even managed to phone Rebekah in Zambia. The doctor who runs the paediatric ward is on holiday so Rebekah and her boyfriend Doug are filling in and loving every minute of it. They have a big responsibility but they are relishing the challenge and learning lots.

We have not had the lab report on Nicola's tumours as yet, but we are continuing to trust the Lord with our lives. I read a little quote from one of my favourite authors Dallas Willard this week which has helped clarify where we are with regards Nicola's illness. He says 'If you would really like to know the 'rest appropiate to the people of God' ( Hebrews 4:9) then make the decision to leave all outcomes to God.' Many years ago Nicola and I decided that the overriding principle of our lives together would be that we would do our best to put the Kingdom first ( Matthew 6:33) and to give ourselves to serve the King and His Kingdom in any way we could. And so, in this latest and most difficult stage of our lives, we simply want to continue to do just that, content to leave all outcomes to God.

With much love,

Phil

You are both such a blessing and inspiration to us. You never are out of our thoughts and prayers. The church here in ashford prayed loads throughout our prayer week for you all - they had to, because you are people who matter to us - so its compulsary! We love you so much - and we thank God we have you in our lives.
